For Beltline’s Construction Safety Week 2021, we highlighted different safety topics to focus on each day using a “Daily Toolbox Talk”  infographic which was handed out to our employees further educating them on these safety topics. We also displayed these topics to the public by posting them on our social media platforms. Here is a summary of the safety topics we focused on this past week.

Monday:

Be Present, Be Focused

Mental awareness is critically important for workers to stay safe. Mental distractions can rob a worker of their focus and lead to serious or deadly accidents. It is critically important that workers watch out for each other and learn to recognize the signs of someone who may be struggling. Being mentally focused on the job means being prepared, identifying risks, and knowing what to do in a crisis. It’s not enough to be focused on the work and the task at hand, workers must be focused on their safety and the safety of everyone around them. It is important that workers know there are resources available to help them be present and focused.

Tuesday:

Healthy Mind, Healthy Body

Being safe means paying attention to both mind and body. It extends beyond wearing hardhats and safety glasses. It means recognizing how important mental health really is to everyone’s overall safety. From suicide to distractions that lead to devastating accidents, it is important that we all recognize the importance of total wellbeing. When workers are physically and mentally safe everyone wins.

Wednesday:

Be Relentless

Preventing injuries means relentlessly paying attention to risk. Using mind and body to always make safety number one. Executing the fundamentals is critically important. It starts by wearing full PPE 100 percent of the time. It means going back to the basics by learning and embracing hand safety techniques. These practices and many more like wearing seatbelts, learning
first aid and always being tied off saves lives and makes our industry safer every day. Mental discipline is a critical element of total wellbeing.

Thursday:

Be Safe, Be Well Rested

Safety is a value that we all need to practice not just in the workplace, but at home too. From fatigue to drug abuse we need to embrace safety in everything we do. Are you or a coworker working so many hours that you are too tired to work or drive? Do you know anyone struggling with depression or a drug problem and having trouble talking about it? The team around you is there to assist and there are resources available that can help if you step forward and commit to holistic safety.

Friday:

Thank you

Our industry is embracing safety more than ever, most especially with the outbreak of COVID this year, and every worker in our industry deserves a big thank you.
